Attendance and Truancy Clerk
Agora Cyber Charter School presents an opportunity to be part of a leading edge school. The Attendance and Truancy Clerk at Agora Cyber Charter School takes on a different twist from the traditional Attendance and Truancy role within a school building. The ideal candidate will need to be creative and think outside the box when managing the federal and state laws regarding attendance and truancy while still following the mission and vision of Agora. As the Attendance and Truancy clerk, you will serve as a representative of Agora and a facilitator for the maintenance of attendance with students, parents, law enforcement agencies and the courts. In this role, you will also provide assistance to other administrators and teachers in interpreting and enforcing compulsory attendance laws and resolving truancy, excessive absences and tardiness problems.
Job Summary:
· Interpret and communicate attendance laws and school policy to parents and students
· Investigate cases of missing attendance or suspected drop-out
· Process paperwork for truancy situations
· Manage student withdrawal process with Agora Cyber Charter School and resident district
· Confer regularly with teachers, counselors, principals and other staff to identify problems of attendance and student truancy
· Work closely with counselors, teachers and other staff, as well as parents to identify students at risk of dropping out
· Maintain contact and act as liaison to local law enforcement agencies and courts in the area of student truancy
· Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required, including records of all cases investigated and reports required by state agencies
· Implement and comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board
· Comply with state education rules and local board policy in the area of student attendance
· Develop and implement effective communication with the student's resident district; promote community support and involvement with the schools
· Maintain confidentiality concerning the student and/or family with all persons other than authorized persons or agencies
· Participate in teacher professional development to improve teacher understanding of the truancy process; brainstorm with all staff on ideas to prevent truancy from happening
Requirements
· Knowledge or willingness to learn of the state and local attendance/truancy law and process
· Knowledge or willingness to learn court procedure on local and county and state levels
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Experience in a charter school environment preferred
